Two hikers fell seriously ill on the West Highland Way after drinking contaminated water from a burn near Conic Hill. Both were rescued by Lomond Mountain Rescue; one required nearly ten hours of treatment for vomiting, and the other was taken to hospital after becoming unable to walk. Lomond Mountain Rescue and the National Park authority have issued guidance recommending the use of bottled water or treated water sources rather than untreated burn water.
Outcome: both hikers rescued; one treated on scene after ten hours, one evacuated to hospital
