Farm near Kelso, Borders
A 500kg heifer fell into a hidden underground Victorian icehouse on a farm near Kelso in May. An 11-hour multi-agency rescue involving Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and farm contractors successfully freed the animal using a drone for reconnaissance and a digger to create an exit route.
Outcome: heifer rescued safely and returned to farm in good health
