Cefn Coed quarry, Merthyr
A 13-year-old was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after falling approximately 40 feet in a quarry near Cefn Coed, Merthyr. The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon while the teenager was playing with friends. Three mountain rescue teams, the coastguard helicopter and air ambulance were involved in the two-hour rescue operation.
Outcome: airlifted to University Hospital of Wales with serious injuries
