Three walkers required rescue in The Pools of Dee within the Lairig Ghru area after becoming stranded during a blizzard. Mountain rescue teams were called out to locate the group, who were subsequently given shelter and assisted down the mountain with the help of all-terrain vehicles.
Outcome: Rescued and safely brought down to Braemar.
A walker got into difficulty on Bennachie in strong winds on Hogmanay and was assisted by Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team. The rescue took place in challenging weather conditions under a yellow weather warning.

A 62-year-old walker became separated from his companion in poor weather near Ben Macdui in the Cairngorms on Friday and spent two nights exposed on the hillside. After his companion raised the alarm, a major search and rescue operation involving helicopter, mountain rescue teams, police and dogs was launched. He was found by Aberdeen University students on Sunday morning, provided with food and shelter, and airlifted to safety.

Two hillwalkers became separated in poor weather on the Cairngorms plateau in October 2021. One was missing for over 48 hours before being located by university students and subsequently airlifted to safety by rescue helicopter. Both were reunited safely.

A group of four walkers required rescue on Cairn Toul after becoming lost and suffering from exposure during a 24-hour walk. Mountain rescue teams located the party in the early hours when they were found to be wet, cold, and one individual was hypothermic.

Emergency crews responded to reports of an injured climber on Mitre Ridge at Beinn a’ Bhuird. The operation involved multiple teams and culminated in the successful airlift of two climbers to safety.
Outcome: Two climbers safely rescued; one treated for shoulder injury.
A climber fell several hundred feet on Lochnagar in the Scottish Highlands and was airlifted to hospital with multiple injuries. Braemar and Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Teams, assisted by a Coastguard helicopter, stretchered the casualty from a steep gully to the aircraft for evacuation.

A 65-year-old hillwalker went missing on Lochnagar on Friday evening after failing to return from a walk. The search was suspended on Saturday due to extreme weather conditions with winds exceeding 100mph, and was to resume on Sunday morning. The walker had not been located as of the publication of this report.

A 25-year-old runner became separated from a group of six in the Lairig Ghru area of the Cairngorms whilst wearing only shorts, trainers and a running top. Found by Cairngorm Mountain Rescue after five hours in subzero conditions and heavy snow, he was suffering from hypothermia and close to losing consciousness. He was warmed and airlifted to safety by RAF helicopter Rescue 137.
Outcome: casualty evacuated by helicopter after being warmed by rescue team
A 25-year-old climber fell approximately 800 feet down a cliff in the Coire Sputan Dearg area of the Southern Cairngorms in whiteout conditions. He sustained serious injuries including nine broken ribs, a broken wrist, and liver and lung injuries. He was located by mountain rescue and airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by RAF helicopter.
Outcome: evacuated by stretcher and airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries
