Wasdale MRT

A lone male walker reported being stuck and uncomfortable at Stand Crag on the Corridor Route. Before the mountain rescue team reached the location, the walker self-rescued back onto the main path and descended safely. The team stood down after confirming he had left the hill.

A cold male was encountered by walkers near the summit of Scafell Pike on 6 August 2026. Mountain rescue assisted the casualty and his companions during descent, providing monitoring and support to ensure he remained warm and stable.

Five 17-year-olds were reported to have a leg injury and were located in the Upper Esk after spending the night out in wet and cold conditions. A Coastguard helicopter airlifted all five casualties from the scene, and upon examination no leg injury was identified; all appeared to be in good health despite overnight exposure.

A male casualty with a knee injury was unable to walk on the summit of Scafell Pike. MRT members were airlifted closer to the summit by Coastguard Rescue 336, assessed and packaged the casualty, and began stretcher evacuation. Once below cloud base, the helicopter successfully landed and lifted the casualty to the car park, where he was collected by family.

Three people who were wet and cold on the Corridor Route near the Bad Step on Scafell Pike were located by the MRT above the Zig-Zags, where they had already met an Outward Bound Trust group. MRT provided warm clothing and escorted them safely down to the valley.

A couple reported themselves lost on the path above Middleboot Knotts on Scafell Pike. After initial contact, they were encouraged to continue and subsequently managed to walk off without requiring rescue assistance.

A male hiker suffering severe cramp became unable to descend from Lingmell Col on Scafell Pike. Cumbria Police alerted the mountain rescue team, who assessed him on scene and provided food, fluids, and rest. The casualty recovered sufficiently to walk down with support and was discharged at Wasdale Head Inn.

Cumbria Police contacted mountain rescue regarding concern for an overdue walker participating in the Lakes 3000s challenge. The walker's last known position was on the Keswick/Langdale boundary, and the incident was passed to Keswick MRT for coordination of further enquiries and response.

A male walker sustained an ankle injury on Hollowstones, Scafell Pike and was unable to continue descending unaided. Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team deployed and provided support, eventually packaging the casualty for stretcher evacuation to the car park. A male sustained a hip injury following a fall while swimming in the waterfalls at Tongue Pots in the River Esk. Mountain rescue team members assisted the casualty in walking down to Lingcove bridge, then conveyed him by stretcher for comfort. He was handed over to friends for transport to hospital for further assessment.

North West Ambulance Service received a report of intermittent whistling heard high on Scafell Pike. The MRT Team Leader assessed the situation with the caller and Cumbria Police, determining there was no clear distress pattern and no reliable indication of a person in difficulty. The decision was made not to deploy the team.

Two male walkers were reported to Cumbria Police after one sustained a head injury with concussion and dizziness near Beck Head on Great Gable. The casualty was unable to stand safely. The incident was transferred to Cockermouth MRT for handover due to the location on the boundary between rescue team patches.

A group of walkers became lost at Taylorforce Gill near Keswick and were unable to continue. Cumbria Police contacted Keswick MRT, who took over the incident and resolved it within nine minutes.

Cumbria Police received a report of a caller near Lingmell Beck on 20 July 2026, but the call disconnected before details could be obtained. Location fixes from the phone indicated the caller was moving toward Brackenclose car park. The team was stood down after determining the caller had safely descended the hill.

A male walker became exhausted and severely dehydrated approximately 200 metres below the summit of Scafell Pike and was unable to continue. Members of the public provided food and water, which helped him recover sufficiently to descend with assistance from the Mountain Rescue Team.

A walker fell on the Corridor Route in the Lake District on 12 July, sustaining a suspected fractured kneecap and reporting tingling in her foot. She was treated on site and airlifted by air ambulance to a waiting land ambulance in a six-hour rescue operation involving Wasdale, Cockermouth, and Duddon and Furness mountain rescue teams.

A daughter became separated from her father while descending Great Gable on 8 July 2026. After reporting the concern to police, the initial response was coordinated between rescue teams, but the father was located by his daughter as she walked back to the car and both returned together safely.

Two walkers on Scafell Pike sustained injuries and activated emergency SOS via iPhone. Three members of the public who were already assisting them helped escort the casualties safely off the hill to the Woolpack Inn, where they arranged further transport.

A male walker reported being lost on Styhead Path, Great Gable on 30 June 2026, with his call dropping out before reconnecting via Cumbria Police and iPhone Emergency SOS. A couple walking the Wastwater Screes with their two Bernese Mountain Dogs became stuck when the dogs refused to continue across the boulder field. Six MRT members responded and deployed the Wasdale Boat to transport the couple and dogs across the lake to safety.

A male walker fell and dislocated his shoulder in Foxes Tarn Gully on Scafell. Multiple rescue services including helicopter support were deployed; the casualty was treated on scene, lowered by rope stretcher down the gully, and then airlifted to West Cumberland Hospital.

A couple became disoriented in mist while descending Scoat Fell and contacted Cumbria Police for assistance. Once their location was established, they were able to navigate themselves off the hill with guidance from the MRT Team Leader, who monitored their progress remotely until they reached safety.

A party of six walkers reported themselves lost on Broad Crag on 19 June 2026, with initial phone contact lost during their 999 call. After brief reconnection, they indicated they were on the Corridor Route and had parked at Seathwaite. A couple became separated in foggy conditions on Illgill Head. The female returned to accommodation while search and rescue teams were being mobilised. The male returned safe and well before the search commenced, and the team was stood down.

A female walker sustained a knee injury on the lower section of the Tourist Path on Scafell Pike and was unable to continue her descent. Team members assessed her and stretchered her back to the car park, where she was transferred to her husband's car for transport to hospital.

A man was reported in the River Esk in Eskdale Valley at 2:40am on 7 June. Mountain rescue teams from Wasdale and Cockermouth attended to provide swift water rescue support, discovering the casualty had already moved to the opposite bank where emergency services were already present. The operation lasted 56 minutes with 12 rescuers involved.

A male walker suffered an ankle injury on Mickledore, Scafell Pike, and was unable to self-evacuate due to the severity of his injury and the weight of camping equipment he was carrying. The team, assisted by Duddon & Furness MRT, provided treatment and evacuated him by stretcher. He was transported to hospital for further care.

A female walker became unwell and unable to descend from Scafell Pike on 6 June 2026. A fell runner sustained a significant shin injury with heavy bleeding during an organised race on the Napes at Great Gable. Wasdale MRT and Coastguard Rescue 897 responded; a winch paramedic treated the casualty, who was then able to walk down and was transported to Wasdale Head for handover to race organisers.

Three male walkers reported themselves lost near the summit of Scafell Pike in thick fog. They were located via PhoneFind and guided back down by another walker without requiring MRT deployment.

A call was received regarding a male who had fallen at Kern Knotts, sustaining injuries to his head and hand. MRT personnel were deployed immediately from base, where the casualty was assessed and treated on scene before being walked off the hill for onward care.

A male sustained an upper-leg injury after falling near a stream crossing on Lingmell Beck. Although the Mountain Rescue Team was called out, the casualty had already been assisted off the hill by others before the team arrived at the car park.

A member of the public alerted authorities regarding a walker on the Corridor Route who was showing signs of dehydration. Following initial support from others present, the casualty recovered sufficiently and was able to continue his walk safely off the mountain.

Wasdale MRT responded to Cumbria Police regarding a group of nine people who were reported lost near Stand Crag. After making contact and advising the group to walk downhill towards Wasdale, team members located all individuals safe and well near Wasdale Head.

A full callout was required for an individual who sustained a knee injury while descending from Hollowstones on Scafell Pike. The casualty was assessed and stabilised at the scene before being stretchered down the hill and handed over to friends for onward transport.

Cumbria Police contacted the Wasdale MRT regarding a party of three who had become separated on Scafell Pike. After initial difficulties with communication, it was confirmed that all members of the group were safely descending from the mountain.

Cumbria Police requested assistance in searching for a missing person within Eskdale. Multiple mountain rescue teams and search dogs were deployed to cover the area until the individual was located inside their tent.

Outcome: Person found alive

Patterdale MRT was conducting a search for a high-risk missing person and requested additional support from the LDSAMRA Silver coordination group. Wasdale MRT deployed five team members to assist with searching areas within their allocated patch.

Outcome: Search concluded successfully.

Wasdale MRT was contacted by Cumbria Police regarding a couple and their dog needing assistance at the bad step on the Corridor Route. After establishing phone contact, the Team Leader provided reassurance and guidance, enabling the individuals to safely navigate past the obstacle themselves.
