Cusgarne

missing person South West

West Cornwall Search & Rescue assisted Devon & Cornwall Police in searching for a high-risk missing person with dementia in the Cusgarne area. The person was located by a member of the public and safely reunited with their family.

Looe

missing person Dartmoor

A missing male, assessed as high risk, was the subject of a search operation involving Tavistock and Plymouth mountain rescue teams alongside police and East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team. The search covered wooded areas and fields in hot conditions, with the focus shifting to a northern area based on new information. The missing person was located alive and the operation was stood down.

Poldice Valley

injured trail user South West

A trail user fell from their bike in Poldice Valley and sustained a lower leg injury. West Cornwall Search & Rescue assisted in evacuating the casualty by stretcher to a waiting ambulance approximately 15 minutes away.

Illogan

missing person South West

West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team conducted a seven-hour search for a high-risk missing person in the Illogan area on 17 May. The missing person was located outside the search area by police, and the team stood down at 17:30.

St Ives

missing person South West Serious incident

West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team assisted Devon & Cornwall Police in searching for a high-risk missing person in the St Ives area on 10 May 2026. Multiple search teams from various services worked for over nine hours across rural and urban areas. A body was located later that afternoon.

Carn Brea, near Basset Monument

injured climber South West

A young man fell from rocks near the Basset Monument at Carn Brea on 26 April and sustained injuries. The team, conducting a training exercise nearby, immediately responded and provided casualty care before assisting paramedics in stretching the casualty to an ambulance for hospital transport.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher to hospital

Penzance

Search for missing person (following RTC) South West

Mountain rescue teams were called out by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist with a search for a high-risk missing person believed to be injured after a road traffic collision. A search area was established around the vehicle and cleared using assistance from the Coastguard helicopter.

Outcome: Nothing found; search concluded.

March 2026

Nr Truro

Casualty extraction/Rescue South West

On Tuesday 31 March, the team was called out by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist with the extrication of a casualty at Nr Truro. Fifteen team members attended the scene and spent over an hour conveying the casualty across rough terrain and a watercourse.

Outcome: The casualty was successfully conveyed to an ambulance.

Newquay

Missing Person Search South West

The team was called out by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist with a search in the Newquay area at approximately 4:15 am. The search effort concluded later that morning after it was confirmed that the missing group had been located by the police.

Outcome: All safe (or search concluded)
