6 incidents Mountain biking accident Peak District
A mountain biker sustained multiple injuries while descending rough terrain near Jacobs Ladder. The casualty received treatment from a team paramedic before being carried down into the Edale valley to await transfer by land ambulance.

Injured Walker Peak District
The team responded to assist emergency services with transporting a casualty from the Waterswallows Quarry area. The operation took approximately two hours to complete.

Chris Lewis, a 62-year-old volunteer with Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, died of pneumonia on 3 September 2023, more than two years after suffering a serious fall while on a rescue callout. Lewis had fallen 150 metres on Red Screes in February 2021, sustaining spinal injuries and facial fractures that left him wheelchair-dependent, but he continued to contribute to the team as a trustee until his death.
Outcome: casualty airlifted to hospital; died of pneumonia 30 months later
Missing Person Search Peak District
A search dog and handler were requested to assist the Edale Mountain Rescue team in searching for a missing person on Sir William Hill. The individual was eventually located and reported to be safe and well.

Climbing accident/Fall Peak District
A climber sustained a head injury and lost consciousness after falling 6-8 metres near Ravenstor. A multi-agency effort was required to safely lower the casualty from the steep location into the valley.
Outcome: Transported to hospital
Injury/Rescue Peak District
A walker sustained a painful ankle injury at the top of Grindsbrook near Foxholes and was unable to descend on their own. Multiple team members attended the scene, requiring assistance from another local mountain rescue team to safely carry the casualty down through the area.
Outcome: Casualty was safely carried out.
August 2023
8 incidents lost walkers Peak District
A group of walkers became lost in the Dove Stone Reservoir area near the Trinnacle, a precarious rock formation popular on social media. Some were rescued by helicopter from Middle Edge Moss. The incident prompted warnings from Oldham Mountain Rescue about the dangers of visiting the Trinnacle for photographs, noting that over 25% of callouts in the area are now related to this location.
Outcome: group found at Middle Edge Moss and some flown to safety by helicopter
Medical Emergency/Search and Rescue Peak District
Mountain Rescue was called out following reports of a stranded camper who had become uncontactable due to a medical episode. After efforts to establish communication, the individual regained consciousness and allowed teams to pinpoint his location via mobile phone. He was subsequently assessed by the team before being assisted to waiting ambulance personnel.
Outcome: Safe recovery after medical assistance

A man suffered a suspected ruptured quadricep while walking at Dovestone on 21 August 2023. Oldham Mountain Rescue and North West Ambulance Service attended and located him near Wimberry Boulders with assistance from his friends. He was assessed and evacuated by stretcher to an ambulance for treatment.
Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher to ambulance for treatment
Climber Injured Peak District
A team was called out to assist ambulance services with the extraction of a fallen climber at Windgather Rocks. The casualty was assessed on site before being placed onto a stretcher for transport by the North West Ambulance Service crew.

A glider crashed into Waun Fach in the Black Mountains on 17 August 2023 at approximately 13:52 BST. The pilot sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was airlifted to hospital in Cwmbran. The Air Accident Investigation Branch referred the matter to the British Gliding Association.
Outcome: pilot airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
Glider crash Brecon Beacons Serious incident
A glider crashed into the side of Waun Fach in the Black Mountains on Tuesday afternoon. The pilot was airlifted to hospital but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

ankle injury on steep ground Southern Uplands
Eight volunteers from Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue assisted Scottish Ambulance Service in evacuating a female casualty who had sustained an ankle injury on steep ground at Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh. The casualty was transported to New Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A 26-year-old walker from North Yorkshire went missing on the Carneddau and was found dead on steep ground below Llech Ddu spur on Carnedd Dafydd after a search involving mountain rescue, police, and coastguard helicopter. The post also describes a separate incident on Tryfan where a 58-year-old man suffered a head injury attempting to jump between rock formations and was evacuated by helicopter to hospital.

6 incidents welfare concern - reports of person calling for help Peak District
Emergency services including Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, police, and fire crews conducted a search at Dovestone Reservoir in Greenfield after reports of someone shouting for help. A fire service drone was deployed to aid the search, which lasted over two hours before being stood down with no one found.
Outcome: search stood down, no one found
stranded person Snowdonia
A woman from Derbyshire became stranded on Glyder Fawr in Cwm Idwal while attempting to retrieve her parrot, which had panicked and flown away after being chased by peregrine falcons. Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team located her via her mobile phone and safely brought her and her parrot down from the steep, heavily vegetated terrain.

A walker collapsed at the summit of Slieve Donard on 13 July 2023 and died at the scene. Mourne Mountain Rescue Team responded with twelve members, supported by Air Ambulance and a Search and Rescue Aircraft, but despite their efforts the walker could not be revived.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team responded to two separate incidents on 10 July 2023. The first involved a 17-year-old Duke of Edinburgh participant who slipped and hit his head near Rosthwaite; he was assessed by team medics and taken to hospital. The second saw the Coastguard helicopter rescue a group of Scouts from the Robinson–Hindscarth path, where one was hypothermic, one having an asthma attack, and one with a knee injury; all were safely evacuated.
Outcome: all casualties evacuated to hospital or safely descended; potential stretcher descent in poor weather avoided

A man was rescued from a 35-foot mineshaft in the Prideaux Wood area near Tywardreath Highway, Par. Emergency services including Devon and Cornwall Police, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, South Western Ambulance Service, and East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team coordinated the rescue. The casualty was transported by air ambulance to hospital with injuries initially assessed as serious but later downgraded.

A man in his 50s was found deceased in the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal near Parkend Bridge during a search operation by Severn Area Rescue Association and emergency services. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the man's next of kin has been notified.

4 incidents child fall from rope swing Peak District
A boy fell from a rope swing at Tandle Hill Country Park in Royton and sustained a lower leg injury. Oldham Mountain Rescue Team assisted North West Ambulance Service in extracting and transporting the casualty to hospital, with 13 crew members attending for two and a half hours.

A 27-year-old woman sustained a significant fall in Alva Glen on 13 June 2023 and was rescued from a gorge using technical rope rescue systems. She was airlifted to hospital by HM Coastguard Rescue 199, whilst her companions walked off the hill uninjured.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team attended Dovestone reservoir on 12 June after receiving reports of a young deer trapped in the Ashway Gap overflow. The team lowered themselves into the overflow and encouraged the fawn downstream, allowing it to jump clear and escape into the grass.
Outcome: deer successfully encouraged to escape and fled into grass

A man suffered a serious fall on Slieve Binnian and was airlifted to hospital by the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team. He sustained multiple fractures including to the skull, ribs and pelvis, and was told by hospital doctors he was fortunate to have survived the incident.
