Pillar Rock, west face

A 60-year-old climber fell on the route 'Megaton' on the west face of Pillar Rock on Friday afternoon. Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team coordinated with Coastguard and air ambulance helicopters to winch team members to the casualty, who was treated, stabilised and airlifted to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. The casualty's climbing partner was also safely assisted from the crag.
