Yennadon Down

fallen horse rider Dartmoor

A horse rider fell on Yennadon Down above Burrator Reservoir and sustained back pain. The team assisted South West Ambulance Service in immobilising the casualty with a vacuum mattress and stretcher evacuation to the waiting ambulance.

Outcome: casualty immobilised and stretchered to ambulance

Sheepstor

The team was called to assist South West Ambulance at Sheepstor where three campers required extraction. Two of the group were unwell and cold and unable to walk off; all three were evacuated by stretcher and handed over to ambulance crews.

Down Tor, Dartmoor

A high-risk missing male was reported lost and cold near Down Tor on Dartmoor. The team deployed five search parties from Norsworthy Bridge and located him unharmed on the Deancombe track within three hours, returning him safely to the rendezvous point.

Outcome: located unharmed and handed to police

Leather Tor

A 14-year-old male fell 5 metres on Leather Tor, sustaining a head injury. The rescue team established rope systems to extract him from the tor and stretcher-carried him over a kilometre to a waiting ambulance. He was handed over to land ambulance at 18:09.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher to ambulance

Lynch Tor / Baggator area

Two walkers reported missing after visiting Lynch Tor and heading toward Baggator were located safe and well in the valley near Coffin Wood, where they had camped overnight. The search involved team vehicle patrols, foot search parties, and a police drone, with the walkers found to be fit and well and the operation stood down in the evening.

Outcome: walkers found safe and well, camped overnight

Burrator Reservoir

A walker fell and sustained an ankle dislocation near Burrator Reservoir. Team members assessed the casualty, administered pain relief, and reduced the dislocation before evacuating her by stretcher to Norsworthy Bridge where she was handed to ambulance personnel for transport to hospital.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by ambulance to hospital following on-site treatment and stretcher evacuation

Longaford Tor

A walker sustained a lower leg injury near Longaford Tor and was attended by South Western Ambulance Service Trust and the team on 14 July. The Devon Air Ambulance was able to land at the scene and evacuate the casualty to hospital.

Outcome: evacuated by air ambulance to hospital

Horrabridge

A walker fell on a rough track above Horrabridge and sustained an ankle injury, leaving them unable to walk. Team members deployed with a wheeled stretcher and assisted South West Ambulance Service in packaging the casualty and carrying them down to the village for ambulance transfer.

Outcome: casualty stretchered to ambulance

North of Two Bridges

A walker became unwell north of Two Bridges on 2 July and experienced difficulty breathing. She was attended by the team and walked to a land ambulance at Crockern Cottage with team members accompanying her. The casualty had recovered enough to walk and was transferred to ambulance care.

Looe

A missing male, assessed as high risk, was the subject of a search operation involving Tavistock and Plymouth mountain rescue teams alongside police and East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team. The search covered wooded areas and fields in hot conditions, with the focus shifting to a northern area based on new information. The missing person was located alive and the operation was stood down.

Outcome: located alive

Burrator reservoir

A woman fell from her horse near Burrator reservoir and sustained a suspected broken left arm. After assessment and pain relief by paramedics, she was able to stand and was escorted to an ambulance for transport to hospital.

Outcome: casualty escorted to ambulance

Derriford Hospital

Missing Person (Deceased) Dartmoor Serious incident

A multi-agency search was conducted for a 52-year-old male reported missing from Derriford Hospital over two days. The initial searches took place in woodland and overgrown areas near the hospital, with efforts continuing on Thursday before the individual was located deceased on Friday afternoon.

Southway, Plymouth

UXB/Evacuation Support Dartmoor

Mountain Rescue personnel were deployed over two days to assist with the evacuation of homes in the Southway area due to the discovery of an unexploded World War II ordnance. The teams worked through multiple shifts, systematically checking properties within a cordon and coordinating with various emergency services.

Outcome: All teams were stood down after a lengthy deployment.

Fur Tor

Medical Emergency (Hypoglycaemia) Dartmoor

A team was called out following a request for assistance regarding a lone diabetic male experiencing low blood sugar at Fur Tor. A multi-agency response was coordinated, involving the South West Ambulance Service and a Coastguard helicopter, which ultimately facilitated the casualty's evacuation.

Outcome: Casualty evacuated

Dartmoor

Ordnance/Hazard Assessment Dartmoor

The team was called out by the Police regarding suspected unexploded ordnance found on Dartmoor. Due to poor visibility and the remote nature of the location, the rescue team attended a nearby rendezvous point before being stood down once the object was located and confirmed safe.

Outcome: No further action required

Injury/Extraction Dartmoor

The team was called out to assist with the extraction of a young lady who was training for Ten Tors. The casualty was located between Sittaford Tor and Fernworthy Forest, and she was subsequently packaged and stretchered to an awaiting ambulance.

Outcome: Casualty safely extracted and transferred to ambulance.

Tuckermarsh

Fall into water/stream Dartmoor

The team was called to assist after an individual fell into a stream in the Tuckermarsh area. Team members assisted with packaging and carefully transporting the casualty from the stream location up to the waiting ambulance for onward care.

Outcome: Transported to hospital

Tavistock

Missing Person Dartmoor

The team responded to the Police request to search for a missing woman in the Tavistock area. The individual was subsequently located safely near her residence while information was being gathered to plan the search.

Outcome: Safe/Found

Lee Moor

Missing Person Search Dartmoor

Search dog teams were requested to assist with a search in the Lee Moor area for a missing male. However, team members were stood down en route after police successfully located the individual.
