Ben Nevis

A black Labrador became critically ill after apparently ingesting discarded cannabis during a hike on Ben Nevis in early July. The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team stretchered the unconscious dog down from the mountain to a local veterinary clinic in Fort William, where she made a full recovery.

Outcome: dog evacuated by stretcher, fully recovered

Scafell Pike

A walker was reported overdue from Scafell Pike after his wife contacted police. The missing person was located safe in a different location than expected and made his own way back to his vehicle.

Outcome: located safe, walked off uninjured

Pinhaw

injured mountain biker Yorkshire Dales

A mountain biker was injured on Pinhaw and reported significant rib and pelvic pain with elevated breathing rate. The team assisted the ambulance service by transferring the casualty to a wheeled stretcher for transport to a waiting road ambulance.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher to road ambulance

Broad Crag

A couple became lost in fog on Broad Crag and were unable to safely return to the main path despite guidance from the MRT Team Leader. Duddon & Furness MRT assisted by deploying six members to walk them off the hill, and they were safely escorted down without injury.

Outcome: walked off the hill safely with MRT assistance

Styhead Path, Great Gable

A male walker reported being lost on Styhead Path, Great Gable on 30 June 2026, with his call dropping out before reconnecting via Cumbria Police and iPhone Emergency SOS. MRT deployed and located him with assistance from two wild campers who were guiding him down. The walker was accompanied back to his vehicle uninjured.

Outcome: walker guided off hill uninjured with assistance from campers and MRT

Bolton Abbey

A 78-year-old woman fell near St Mary and St Cuthbert's Church at Bolton Abbey and sustained a suspected neck of femur injury. The rescue team provided pain relief, carefully packaged the casualty, and carried her by stretcher to the bridge where she was handed over to Yorkshire Ambulance Service for further care.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher to ambulance care

A 17-year-old male sustained a serious knee injury while walking on the waterfalls track in the Valley of Desolation near Bolton Abbey on 21 August 2026. His knee became locked after slipping and aggravating a previous injury. The team assessed and splinted the knee before evacuating him by stretcher to a team vehicle for onward care.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher for onward care

Bridgwater

A despondent male was reported missing near Bridgwater. Avon and Somerset Police contacted the team, and the casualty was located by Exmoor Search and Rescue Team and the responding team.

Wastwater Screes

A couple walking the Wastwater Screes with their two Bernese Mountain Dogs became stuck when the dogs refused to continue across the boulder field. Six MRT members responded and deployed the Wasdale Boat to transport the couple and dogs across the lake to safety.

Outcome: couple and dogs safely transported by boat to opposite shore

Foxes Tarn Gully, Scafell

A male walker fell and dislocated his shoulder in Foxes Tarn Gully on Scafell. Multiple rescue services including helicopter support were deployed; the casualty was treated on scene, lowered by rope stretcher down the gully, and then airlifted to West Cumberland Hospital.

Outcome: casualty airlifted to hospital by helicopter after rope evacuation from gully

A 19-year-old man died following a water incident at Ystradfellte waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons National Park on 27 June 2026. Multiple emergency services, including mountain rescue teams, fire and rescue, ambulance, and Wales Air Ambulance, attended and undertook extensive resuscitation efforts, but were unsuccessful.

Lazonby, River Eden

A young man became exhausted and unable to continue walking along a footpath near the River Eden in Lazonby. He had called for help while experiencing distress, but subsequently made his own way back to the road and was collected by a friend before the team's assessment was complete.

Outcome: self-resolved, collected by friend

Red Tarn

A 16-year-old male walker became exhausted due to heat whilst on Red Tarn and was unable to continue. Penrith Mountain Rescue Team provided phone support and reassurance to enable him to safely descend to Glenridding.

Outcome: casualty safely descended with remote support

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team responded to six incidents across the region in June and July 2026, including injured walkers, a person experiencing distress near the River Eden, a hypothermic wild camper, and a stranded solo walker. All casualties were safely assisted, with some requiring stretcher evacuation and ambulance handover.

Outcome: All casualties assisted safely; some evacuated by stretcher and handed to ambulance services, others walked off with support

Ben Nevis

An 87-year-old blind military veteran became exhausted at Half Way Lochan on Ben Nevis during a charity climb on 27 June 2026 and required assistance from Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, who evacuated him using an all-terrain vehicle. The Princess of Wales was higher on the mountain at the time and was made aware of the rescue through radio communications.

A 19-year-old died after entering the water at Ystradfellte waterfalls in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park on 27 June. Multiple emergency services attended and attempted resuscitation, but the person could not be saved. Central Beacons Mountain Rescue coordinated the multi-agency response alongside police, ambulance, fire services, and Wales Air Ambulance.

Outcome: person recovered from water, extensive resuscitation unsuccessful, fatality

Guards Wood

A boy in an organised group fell and injured his leg at Guards Wood. The team provided first aid, pain relief, and wound care before transporting him by stretcher to meet a land ambulance for hospital transfer.

Chapmanslade

Avon and Somerset Police requested support in the search for a high-risk missing male in the Chapmanslade area. The missing person returned to a place of safety before the team completed deployment.

Scoat Fell

A couple became disoriented in mist while descending Scoat Fell and contacted Cumbria Police for assistance. Once their location was established, they were able to navigate themselves off the hill with guidance from the MRT Team Leader, who monitored their progress remotely until they reached safety.

Three walkers became disorientated in mist on Ingleborough summit and were unable to locate the correct descent route. The team's Duty Controller located them using Phone Find and guided them safely onto the Horton path and down the hill without requiring physical evacuation.

Coast to Coast route

A walker separated from her group on the Coast to Coast route became lost in hot conditions. The team located her, provided medical assessment, and transported her to her accommodation in Reeth.

Looe

missing person Dartmoor

A missing male, assessed as high risk, was the subject of a search operation involving Tavistock and Plymouth mountain rescue teams alongside police and East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team. The search covered wooded areas and fields in hot conditions, with the focus shifting to a northern area based on new information. The missing person was located alive and the operation was stood down.

Outcome: located alive

Looe

East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team was called out twice in one night to assist police with two separate high-risk missing person searches in the Looe area on 24–25 June. Both missing persons were located safely; the first was found during the initial search and the second was found the following afternoon after an extended search involving multiple rescue teams.
