Scafell Pike

A couple became lost on Scafell Pike and contacted Cumbria Police for advice. While the team leader attempted to locate them, the couple found the path themselves and no longer required assistance, so the rescue was stood down.

Outcome: walkers found path and self-recovered, no assistance required

Broad Crag Col, Scafell Pike

cold casualty Lake District

A casualty became cold at Broad Crag Col on Scafell Pike and was assisted by Keswick Mountain Rescue Team and Maritime and Coastguard Agency Rescue 897. The team provided warming, food and water, and the casualty was airlifted to Keswick for further care.

Outcome: airlifted to Keswick

Piethorne Reservoir, Newhey

missing person Peak District

A 71-year-old man with dementia was found safe after going missing near Piethorne Reservoir in Newhey. Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, working with Greater Manchester Police, located him with assistance from search dogs within four and a half hours. He was cold and confused but otherwise uninjured and was reunited with his family.

Outcome: casualty found safe and reunited with family

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team responded to three separate incidents on 29 August. Two mountain bikers with head, neck, shoulder and leg injuries were located and evacuated by ambulance from Caddon Bank and Glentress. A third alert concerning a person at a nearby campsite proved not to require medical assistance.

Outcome: two casualties evacuated by ambulance; third person found at campsite, no medical help needed

Lords Rake, Scafell

Two people lost on Scafell in the Lords Rake area whilst attempting the National Three Peaks challenge were located by the team and talked back to their car by the team leader. The incident lasted 1 hour 36 minutes with no injuries reported.

Outcome: talked off the hill safely to their car

Great End

lost walkers Lake District

Two people reported lost near Great End in cloudy conditions on 29 August 2026. The cloud lifted during the response, allowing the casualties to orient themselves, and mountain rescue assistance was stood down without further action required.

Outcome: self-resolved when visibility improved

Keswick

leg injury / cramp Lake District

Cumbria Police received a report of a male with leg cramp who was struggling to walk in Keswick. The incident was handed over to Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, who attended the scene. The casualty was assisted and the incident was resolved within five minutes.

Outcome: attended by Keswick MRT

Piethorne Reservoir, Newhey

missing person Peak District

A 71-year-old man with dementia was reported missing near Piethorne Reservoir in Newhey on Saturday, 29 August. Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, working with Greater Manchester Police, located him cold and confused with assistance from search dogs and an air tag signal. He was reunited with his family following assessment.

Outcome: found safe, cold and confused, reunited with family

injured runner Yorkshire Dales

A 55-year-old female runner sustained a foot injury on Whernside and was unable to bear weight. The team located her near Force Gill, assessed her injury, and carried her down the fell by stretcher to the waiting vehicles, where she was transported back to her own car. She was advised by the team doctor to attend A&E for an X-ray.

Outcome: casualty stretchered off fell and transported to own vehicle; advised to attend A&E for X-ray

Mickelden

A male walker with a recurrent knee injury was located in Mickleden following a satellite emergency call. The team mounted a limited response and found the casualty struggling with the injury.

Outcome: casualty located

Scale Knott, Melbreak

injured walker Lake District

A walker slipped and sustained a leg injury on Scale Knott, Melbreak on Friday, 28 August. The casualty was assisted into a stretcher by Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team members, then airlifted by Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter to Cumberland Infirmary due to the difficult terrain for evacuation.

Outcome: airlifted to hospital by helicopter

Green How, Scafell

ankle injury Lake District

A female walker aggravated a pre-existing ankle injury on Green How, Scafell. Team members assisted her descent to meet rescuers, who accompanied her back to the campsite. She was advised to attend hospital for further assessment.

Outcome: assisted descent to campsite, advised to attend hospital

Scale Knott, Melbreak

injured walker Lake District

A walker slipped and injured their leg on Scale Knott, Melbreak on 28 August 2026. Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team attended and, due to the difficult terrain, arranged helicopter assistance to transport the casualty to Cumberland Infirmary.

Outcome: airlifted to hospital by helicopter

Tryfan, Eryri

critical fall injury Snowdonia Serious incident

A walker fell 10 metres while scrambling in a gully on the west side of Tryfan in Eryri and sustained critical injuries. Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, RAF Mountain Rescue Service, and Wales Air Ambulance conducted a technical rope rescue, lowering the casualty below cloud base before airlifting them to a major trauma centre.

Outcome: casualty airlifted to major trauma centre by Wales Air Ambulance following technical rope rescue

Dent Fell

injured mountain biker Lake District

A mountain biker sustained a dislocated shoulder after falling from their bike on Dent Fell. North West Ambulance Service reported the incident and confirmed the casualty had self-evacuated to the carpark, so the mountain rescue team was stood down and not deployed.

Outcome: casualty self-evacuated to carpark, MRT attendance not required

Stanley Ghyll, Eskdale

injured walker Lake District

A male casualty with an arm injury was retrieved from an embankment in Stanley Ghyll, Eskdale, after becoming stuck. The injured person was able to walk down to a waiting ambulance with team assistance. The rescue took 2 hours 33 minutes with 14 team members involved.

Outcome: casualty walked down with assistance to waiting ambulance

A Malaysian rescue team (SMART) is being urged to search both sides of the Nepal-China border for 55 missing Malaysians caught in flash floods and landslides. Family members and advocacy groups emphasize the urgency of the search given the time-sensitive nature of both survivor rescue and remains recovery.

Holme Fell

Fall alert from wearable device Lake District

A mountain rescue team responded to an SOS alert from an Apple Watch detecting a hard fall on Holme Fell. Despite searching the area with good visibility, no casualty was found, and the team stood down after 2 hours 15 minutes.

Outcome: No casualty located, team stood down

Tryfan

critically injured walker in fall Snowdonia Serious incident

A walker fell 10 metres whilst scrambling up a gully on the west side of Tryfan and sustained critical injuries. Two passing mountaineering instructors witnessed the fall and provided immediate assistance. A multi-agency rescue operation involving Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, RAF Mountain Rescue Service, and Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopters successfully evacuated the casualty to a major trauma centre.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue responded to three separate callouts in the Carneddau region. A climber suffered a severe ankle fracture after a 6-metre fall at Chwaral Penmaenbach Quarries and was airlifted to hospital; a fell runner sustained a wrist fracture on the coastal path and was driven to hospital by friends; and a scrambler on Tryfan's Bristly Ridge dislocated their knee and was airlifted to hospital.

Outcome: three casualties airlifted or transported to hospital

Nab Scar

A woman suffered a head injury after falling whilst fellwalking on Nab Scar. She received treatment and wound dressing from the team and was able to walk down with assistance, allowing Kendal Mountain Rescue Team to be stood down.

Outcome: casualty treated and walked off with assistance

Brown Tongue, Scafell Pike

unwell walker Lake District

A female walker on Brown Tongue, Scafell Pike became unwell with dizziness, nausea and difficulty descending. After initial assessment and provision of food and water, she was unable to continue walking and was stretchered down the final 500 metres by the team.

Outcome: casualty stretchered off mountain and advised to attend hospital

Scafell Pike, Broad Crag Col

cardiac arrest / collapse Lake District Serious incident

A male collapsed near the summit of Scafell Pike on 25 August 2026. Despite immediate CPR by bystanders and prolonged resuscitation efforts by the air ambulance crew, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was recovered by helicopter and brought to the valley.

Outcome: casualty deceased
