A walker died after becoming lost on Mount Tryfan in North Wales while following a guidebook route described as 'the easy way'. The casualty fell over 80 feet while attempting to get help after his wife and dog became stranded on a ledge, suffering fatal head injuries.

A man who fell from Ben Nevis in January was found deceased in Observatory Gully in June after a six-month search hampered by deep snowfields. During the same recovery operation, two climbers stuck on Tower Ridge were evacuated by helicopter. The rescue team also attended multiple heat-related incidents as temperatures approached 30°C.

6 incidents cragfast walker Snowdonia Serious incident
A walker in his 40s became cragfast on the steep West Face of Tryfan after making a navigational error while descending the North Ridge on New Year's Eve. He was safely winched to safety by Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter and taken to base for debrief and warming.

Two walkers became cragfast on the south-eastern flank of Crib Goch in icy conditions and were winched to safety by a Coastguard helicopter with assistance from Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team. The pair, who were inadequately equipped for winter terrain, sustained no injuries during the two-hour rescue operation.
Outcome: both walkers winched to safety by helicopter and airlifted to Llanberis MRT base, uninjured

A car lost control on icy Whinlatter Pass and rolled approximately 40 metres down a bank into a beck. The driver escaped serious injury and walked away from the scene. Emergency services including Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team attended the incident during widespread icy conditions across Cumbria.
Outcome: driver walked away uninjured
crag-fast climbers Highlands
Two climbers were rescued from Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis's North Face after becoming stuck in wintry conditions. Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, assisted by Inverness Coastguard helicopter, conducted a nine-hour night operation to bring the men to safety, with rescuers airlifted onto the mountain and both climbers evacuated to the valley by 4am.

A Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team member and experienced mountaineer fell approximately 8 metres at Blea Water Crag above Haweswater while climbing in winter conditions, sustaining multiple non-life-threatening injuries. After a complex 8-hour technical rescue involving rope systems and eventual helicopter evacuation in difficult weather, the casualty was airlifted to Newcastle's Major Trauma Centre for treatment.

A cyclist fell from his mountain bike at Hamsterley Forest and lost consciousness for approximately three hours. He was rescued by Teesdale and Weardale Mountain Rescue and taken to hospital with minor head, neck and other injuries.
Outcome: casualty transported to hospital with minor injuries

4 incidents trapped climber Snowdonia
A woman in her 50s became trapped when her leg became stuck in a crack on Gribin Facet after slipping while walking. Around 16 volunteers from Llanberis and Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team used washing-up liquid and ropes to free her leg, and she was subsequently airlifted to hospital for assessment.
Outcome: casualty airlifted to hospital for check-up

Three separate groups of walkers were rescued from the Brecon Beacons after becoming lost in poor visibility on Saturday. The incidents involved a family in Neuadd Valley, two additional lost walkers, and a woman on Pen Y Fan. Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team and Brecon Mountain Rescue assisted in the rescues.
Outcome: all three groups rescued
lost hillwalker Highlands
A hillwalker from the Glasgow area became lost in the hills near Glen Strathfarrar after a navigational error on Friday and spent a night in the open. He was located on Saturday during a search involving over 30 personnel from five mountain rescue teams, aided by his bright orange survival bag. The incident highlights the importance of wearing high-visibility clothing and being well equipped when hillwalking.
Outcome: located and rescued after night in open, reported well equipped and uninjured

A woman was blown off her feet on Snowdon during Storm Brian on Saturday afternoon and suffered a suspected broken ankle and finger injury. Sixteen Llanberis Mountain Rescue volunteers took four hours to reach her and evacuate her by stretcher down the mountain in extreme weather conditions with wind speeds of 112 mph. She was transferred to hospital for treatment.

A 43-year-old member of Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team died in an accident on Crib Goch, Snowdonia, whilst participating in a team training event on Saturday morning. Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team responded to the incident and North Wales Police is investigating.

A therapy dog named Alfie was part of a hillwalking group on Ben Nevis when one member of the party became exhausted. Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team assisted the group off the mountain, with team member Terry Confield carrying Alfie.

hypothermia Snowdonia
A 19-year-old man climbed Snowdon wearing only Superman underwear as a charity fundraiser on 9 September 2017. He developed hypothermia at the summit and was evaluated by a paramedic at the base but did not require hospital treatment. Mountain rescue issued a plea for visitors to wear appropriate clothing and prepare properly for the mountain.
Outcome: checked by paramedic, did not require hospital treatment

A 64-year-old walker sustained a leg injury in a fall on Goat Fell, Isle of Arran at approximately 13:00 on Wednesday. Arran Mountain Rescue Team attended and carried her to safety on a stretcher, after which she was airlifted to hospital by coastguard helicopter.

7 incidents injured walker with life-threatening injuries Lake District Serious incident
Paul Robinson suffered life-threatening injuries including a broken neck in three places, spinal fracture, and tension pneumothorax after falling on Striding Edge in the Lake District. He was rescued by Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, treated in hospital, and later underwent rehabilitation. He has since recovered and is fundraising for the rescue team that assisted in his survival.

Two serious incidents occurred on Striding Edge on Helvellyn on successive days. On Sunday 27 August, a 54-year-old man fell over 650 feet and died at the scene despite rescue efforts hampered by poor weather. The following day, another man and his dog fell a similar distance; both sustained serious injuries and were evacuated by helicopter.
Outcome: first casualty died at scene; second casualty evacuated by helicopter with serious injuries; dog airlifted for veterinary treatment

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team issued a safety warning following four callouts to Finnich Glen in Stirlingshire, a popular gorge with vertical 70-foot drops and hazardous water conditions. The team highlighted risks including hidden gorge edges, cold water, deep pools, lack of mobile signal, and the need for specialist canyoning skills, urging visitors to exercise caution.

A 58-year-old woman from Lechlade went missing on 24 August and was considered vulnerable. Police helicopter and the Severn Area Rescue Association conducted a search of the Lechlade area, including wooded and river terrain.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue responded to two separate incidents on Tryfan on 21 August 2017. Three brothers became cragfast on the West Face after abandoning the North Ridge in poor visibility, and were assisted down using rope hand lines. Later the same evening, a group of five became cragfast on the North Ridge and were walked off the mountain; both groups were provided with refreshments at base before departing.
Outcome: both groups safely assisted from the mountain and provided with refreshments

A 56-year-old man fell 10 feet on Hay Stacks above Buttermere on Sunday, injuring his shoulder. Passing walkers raised the alarm and assisted the casualty. He was treated by Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team and a Coastguard helicopter and winched to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment.
Outcome: casualty winched into helicopter and flown to Cumberland Infirmary for further treatment
waterfall jump injury Brecon Beacons Serious incident
A man in his 20s sustained serious injuries after jumping from Sgwd Gwladus waterfall near Pontneddfechan. Three mountain rescue teams, police, and ambulance services responded and immobilised the casualty before transporting him to hospital. This was the third such incident at the waterfall in twelve months.
Outcome: casualty immobilised and transported to hospital by ambulance
